Horseshoe Casino get eco-friendly label

2008-04-21 16:13:11

Hammond, Indiana's Horseshoe Casino has been praised for its environmentally friendly initiatives by a local newspaper.

The Post-Tribune referred to the resort as one of the chief recyclers in the Hammond area and reported upon its green policies and recycling systems.

Among Horseshoe's achievements is the complete recycling of all of its cardboard, as well as the utilization of used cooking oil to fuel one of its vans.

According to Lake Country Solid Waste Management District representative Leonard White, the company "showed a real interest in trying to do what was right for the environment".

Mr White's firm has worked with the casino for close to a year and he commented: "I feel really good about what they're trying to do."

As well as recycling, Horseshoe is also embarking upon a composting scheme and is changing all of its lightbulbs to ones less damaging to the environment.

News of Horseshoe's attempts to be more green follow the presentation of a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certificate to the Palazzo casino in Las Vegas.
