Wynn announces Spamalot finish

2008-04-18 16:06:39

The Wynn casino resort in Las Vegas has announced that hit musical Monty Python's Spamalot will finish its run there in July - 15 months after it opened.

Broadway shows have never been particularly big in Vegas, but the Eric Idle-penned Spamalot has done better than several previous efforts, according to the Canadian Press.

By the time it closes, it will have lasted six months longer than Avenue Q did at the Wynn and almost four times as long as Hairspray did at the nearby Luxor casino resort.

Spamalot has been touring for the past few years and has won three Tony awards.

Casino owner Steve Wynn claimed that since it started at his resort, the average ticket sales for each of the daily shows was at 80 per cent, figures he called "pretty good".

"It's good enough to keep it going," he remarked.

As well as Las Vegas, Spamalot has played in London and Australia, with shows planned for Spain later this year.
