Palazzo recognized for energy saving design

2008-04-11 14:56:15

Las Vegas Sands' Palazzo hotel and casino resort has been awarded with a certificate from the US Green Building Council.

The Nevada gambling venue, which is located on the Las Vegas Strip next door to the Venetian, was given a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) award, reports the Las Vegas-Review Journal.

Spokesman for the eco-friendly group Rick Fedrizzi commented: "I was one of the founders of the US Green Building Council 15 years ago and I never could imagine that the ideas would ever touch the Las Vegas Strip."

The representative explained that the Palazzo was the biggest property in the world to have been honored in this way and four times bigger than the previous record holder the Pittsburgh Convention Center.

Mr Fedrizzi said that the casino could save up to 40 per cent in energy and 50 per cent in water in comparison to other buildings of its size.
