Gaming giant Las Vegas Sands has attempted to show there is strong support for its Kansas City casino plans by presenting a petition to the local area's regulator.
Sheldon Adelson's company is one of a number of firms trying to win the rights to build a new casino in the region, but requires endorsement from the Wynadotte County/Kansas City's unified government first, the Kansas City Business Journal reports.
It is not the first time Sands has been in the news this week, following a declaration from its owner that it is willing to set up in a number of Asian countries in exchange for tax breaks.
Almost 5,000 Kansas City residents apparently signed the list in favor of a Sands resort, which would feature 5,000 slots, 200 tables games and a poker room, as well as an outdoor stadium, an arena, conference space, dining facilities and a 300-room hotel and spa.
