Florida poker player achieves inaugural win

2008-03-10 14:08:48

Florida's Ryan Osborne has achieved his first-ever major poker victory, winning $72,500 in the process.

Despite reaching the final table with a large chip deficit, compared to the leader at the time, Osbourne was able to win the $500 no-limit Texas hold'em tournament at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) tournament at Caesars Atlantic City.

David Zeitlin's had led the way, but the 27-year-old from the east coast came good to demote his rival into third position. Jake Neff was beaten in the heads-up stage and took a check for $38,250 away with him.

The WSOP Atlantic City event runs until March 15th with a number of competitions planned each day. Proceedings culminate with a $5,150 buy-in championship match-up, starting on the final day.

Before the last tournament, there will a $200 turbo event that runs throughout Wednesday March 12th.
