Casinos 'helping men to like cruises'

2008-02-29 10:09:45

Poker and other casino games such as roulette and blackjack are making cruises a more attractive holiday for men, it has been reported.

Gambling was mentioned by CruiseCompete.com alongside all-inclusiveness as one of the main reasons why men are now interested in boat-based vacations.

"For men who like to gamble, virtually all ocean cruise ships feature floating casinos," the website explained.

"If the onboard casino is not enough, many cruise ports feature land-based casinos."

Cruises are often seen as exclusive holidays, which could be one factor behind the industry's close links with gambling.

The world's largest gaming destination Macau rose to prominence on the back of wealthy clientele and it seems set to grow further as major poker tournaments begin to be held there.

Many casinos and poker rooms in the US are situated on river boats, particularly around Mississippi and New Orleans.
