Workers 'want casino to stay'

2008-02-07 14:22:53

Casino workers in the Lakewood area of Washington have urged the local officials not to close down the minicasinos in the area, according to reports.

The News Tribune claims that a public hearing on Wednesday evening witnessed comment from people who work at the casinos and rely on their existence for a living and their family's upkeep.

Some 600 jobs are provided by the four casinos in Lakewood, with authorities now required to decide whether such resorts should be permitted or outlawed.

According to the newspaper, people wanting the facilities banned were "in the minority" at the meeting.

In addition, one retired resident who enjoys playing poker said: "The casinos are nice and clean."

Following the hearing, a planning advisory board will make a decision and pass this to officials from the city council, who will then make a formal decision on the matter of the minicasinos' existence in Lakewood.

The City of Lakewood was officially incorporated in 1996, according to the location's website.
