New slots approved for San Manuel

2008-01-23 14:51:33

Approval has been granted to the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians to increase the number slot machines in its casino by 5,500, it has been reported.

The San Bernadino site in California may not end up with all of the slots, however, as the casino operators have said they will only increase the number if the demand is there, according to the Press-Enterprise.

"I'm quite certain that the casino management is going to be sensitive to what the market will tolerate," said Jerry J Paresa, the tribe's spokesman for governmental relations.

"There's no magic formula," he added.

The San Manuel tribe signed a deal with state governor Arnold Schwarznegger in 2006. It already operates 2,000 slot machines at the San Manuel Indian Bingo & Casino.

According to California's population estimates from 2006, San Bernadino County has more than 205,000 residents, implying that there may be good potential for slots demand in the area.
