A tribal casino proposed for Chico in California came closer to fruition this week after the US Department of the Interior ruled in its favor, it has been reported.
The ruling related to whether the casino would have an adverse affect upon the environment, which was found not to be the case, according to the San Jose Mercury News.
Arnold Schwarznegger, the state governor, will be the next obstacle for the casino's developers, who need his approval on issues relating to the number of slot machines.
Following that, they will then need to get the go-ahead from the state's legislature before moving forward.
Owned by the Mechoopda tribe, the casino will have ten table games and approximately 540 to 600 slot machines.
The Mechoopda became federally recognized in 1992 and have traditional links with Chico, which is Butte County's most populated city.
