Revenue increase anticipated for Atlantic City

2008-01-08 11:50:47

An increase in the gross revenue of Atlantic City's gaming industry has been predicted by a leading consultancy organization.

The Spectrum Gaming Group says it expects revenues to increase by two percent in the New Jersey city during 2008, making a sum total of $4.99 billion.

Atlantic City will likely welcome the prediction after revenues fell last year. The projected figure, however, is still not as high as the amount of revenue generated in 2006, which was $5.2 billion.

Most of the increase will be generated by non-gambling operations, said Spectrum spokesman Harvey B Perkins.

"Atlantic City will continue to experience growth in non-gaming areas, fueled in part by the addition of 2,500 hotel rooms coming online in 2008, coupled with added traction from retail, dining and other attractions," he said.

One of the main factors preventing gaming from revenues from expanding was the tightening of smoking regulations in the city, Mr Perkins explained.

A smoking ban was recently introduced at casinos in Colorado.
