New casino to open on January 10th

2007-12-28 10:19:54

A new casino will open its doors Kansas City in less than two weeks' time, it has been revealed.

The 7th Street Casino, owned by the Wyandotte Nation tribe from Oklahoma, will begin operating on January 10th, according to an announcement reported on by the Kansas City Star.

For the past 11 years, the tribe has been fighting legal battles to open the casino, due to challenges from the state and other local tribes relating to its location, the newspaper said.

More legal action could still get in the way of the casino, but the Wyandotte Nation are confident it will go ahead.

Spokesman Billy Friend said: "The case isn't alive. Everything that's been done in court has been in our favor. We're going to go ahead and open up."

Based in Wyandotte, the tribe has more than 3,000 members. It produces an occasional publication known as The Turtle Speaks.
