Casino workers refuse to join Teamsters

2007-12-21 14:06:46

Casino workers in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, have voted against joining the Teamsters union, it has been reported.

According to local paper the Morning Sun, a large majority of the staff at the Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort moved against the idea by 192 to 88.

Spokesperson for the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe, which owns the casino, Michele Stanley explained: "Our employees trust in the leadership to do a good job.

"I went to a lot of meetings with the employees and listened."

The Teamsters conceded that it had been heavily defeated but vowed to continue fighting to unionize workers in the area, with spokesman Ed Morin saying: "We'll be back in a year."

One of the largest casinos in the Midwest, Soaring Eagle offers gambling facilities, as well as hotel rooms and entertainment. On December 23rd it is showing famous ballet The Nutcracker.
