MGM Grand 'will draw younger gamblers'

2007-12-13 08:33:00

The new MGM Grand at Foxwoods in Connecticut, which is scheduled for completion in May, will apparently be aimed at a "younger crowd".

Once finished, the resort will boast a 50,000 sq ft casino, a VIP lounge, a 4,000-seat theater, retail outlets, an outdoor swimming pool, restaurants and more than 800 guest rooms.

Christopher O'Connell, director of hotel operations, said that the $700 complex is likely to attract younger gamblers to the state.

MGM Mirage bosses hope to increase Connecticut's share of slot machine revenue, which currently stands at 25 per cent. The new casino will include 1,450 machines and 54 tables.

The casino is to be connected to Foxwoods by a 100-yard bridge and will employ around to 2,000 staff members.

MGM Mirage has licensed its name to the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, which has been tasked with running the new casino.
