Deadwood casino awaits planning permission

2007-12-10 14:49:15

A new casino in Deadwood, South Dakota, is waiting to see how many buildings the local gaming commission will allow it to have, it has been reported.

The decision is expected to be made tomorrow on the ten-building proposal, a revised version of a 12-building plan that was rejected last year, according to the Rapid City Journal.

Deadwood Resorts has said that it hopes to spend $35 million on the resort, which will include a casino and hotel. The plan is to build it near US Highway 85.

The reason why the casino has to be spread over so many different buildings is because gambling regulations in the state only allow 30 slot machine or card tables per building.

An adviser to the gaming commission Mark Aspaas said: "This whole case boils down to whether the commission would agree (they) are separate buildings."

Deadwood is a town famous for being the place where Wild Bill Hickock was shot.
