MGM plans mega-casino for Atlantic City

2007-10-11 09:51:31

Hotel, casino and entertainment company MGM Mirage has announced its intention to build a $5 billion casino resort in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

The complex will feature the "largest casino floor" in the city, according to wnbc.com, with 200 table games, 5,000 slot machines and a large poker room.

A convention center, a spa, restaurants, nightclubs and a 3,000-room hotel spread over three towers will help make up the rest of the resort.

There will also be 500,000 square feet of retail space.

MGM Grand Atlantic City will be the name of the complex and it will be built at a 72-acre estate at Renaissance Pointe.

The $4.5-5 billion estimate apparently does not include the value of the land or other associated costs.

President of the New Jersey casino association Joe Corbo is quoted on wnbc.com as saying: "It's a very exciting project that is another step in Atlantic City's evolution to a full-scale destination resort, which is critical given the competition we currently face."
