Grand opening for MGM in Detroit

2007-10-03 15:38:21

MGM Grand Detroit officially opened last night (October 2nd) against a backdrop of midnight fireworks.

The launch of the $800 million casino resort, which is the first Las Vegas-style establishment in a major metropolitan conurbation, was attended by 1,000 celebrities.

As well as 100 gaming tables and a floor dedicated to poker, the resort includes an 18-story hotel, 400 rooms and suites, a spa, boutiques, a ballroom and several restaurants.

"We've taken the chic of Manhattan and combined it with the sizzle of Las Vegas and brought it to Detroit," said George Boyer, MGM Grand Detroit's president.

Last year, Detroit generated casino revenues in the region of $1.3 billion.
