Armenian politician shot in Moscow casino

2007-09-27 15:49:44

An Armenian lawmaker has been shot in a Moscow casino, according to reports.

Tigran Arzakantsyan, an Armenian national assembly deputy, was shot in the arm in the Metropol Hotel casino resort in the centre of the Russian capital.

The incident happened in the early hours of Wednesday morning and Mr Arzakantsyan, who has been hospitalized, is said to be in a satisfactory condition, reports the Moscow Times.

"Either an argument broke out in a restaurant or on the street, or there had been bad blood even earlier," said Sergei Buchevsky, who is leading the investigation into the shooting.

The incident is being treated as attempted murder and the police are hunting for the shooter.

Mr Arzakantsyan served in the Soviet armed forces for four years and in 2003 he was elected as a deputy to the Armenian national assembly.
