2007-09-21 15:03:43

More than of all Israeli adults have told pollsters that they are opposed to casino legalization in Israel.

A survey carried out by the Keevoon Research Strategy organization reveals that 55 per cent of respondents are opposed to casinos but the figure rises 61 per cent among women, reports ynetnews.com.

Those who enjoy gambling now have to travel abroad to indulge their habit following the closure of a casino in Jericho, which was prompted by a Palestinian uprising.

Israeli gamblers regularly make their way to casino cruise ships at the port of Eilat or travel to foreign countries, such as Turkey.

Sheldon Adelson, who recently opened the lucrative Venetian Macao, recently said that after 18 years of trying to open a casino in the Holy Land, he has finally given up.
