Atlantic City casinos look set to go smoke-free

2007-09-13 14:59:48

It is has been reported that at least five casinos in Atlantic City are making their gambling floors smoke-free areas in order to comply with new laws.

Tropicana Casino and Harrah's, which own four Atlantic City casinos, has announced that they are spending millions of dollars to build smoking lounges so that gaming floors are free from smoke.

A spokesman for Harrah's said: "We are committed to improving the work environment for our employees.

"I believe this smoke-free ordinance provides our industry with a fair transitional guideline for better workplace conditions."

He added that none of the Harrah's employees would be required to provide waiting services in the smoking lounges.

Earlier this year, a law was passed that required gambling floors to be at least 75 per cent smoke-free and casinos have until Saturday September 15th to make a final decision regarding the smoking lounges.
