Mohegan Tribe to spend $1bn on new casino?

2007-08-31 11:03:09

The Mohegan Tribe in Connecticut is considering spending around $1 billion on a new casino in the Massachusetts town of Palmer.

It is thought that the resort will eventually include 4,000 slot machines, a 600-room hotel and a large retail center.

Bruce Bozsum, chairman of the Mohegan Tribe, which owns the Mohegan Sun Resort, said that the new casino resort could employ up to 5,000 local people.

This figure does not include the thousands of construction workers needed to build the resort, he said.

Richard Fitzgerald, town manager for Palmer, has confirmed that officials have met with potential developers "on a couple of occasions", reports the Boston Herald.

The Mohegan Sun Resort, which attracts 11 million visitors every year, employs 24,000 people at the casino or in nearby businesses that supply goods and services to the resort.
