Kansas' Sumner County expresses casino hopes

2007-08-09 11:55:23

Sumner County is hoping to build a casino resort near one of the Kansas Turnpike interchanges, it has been announced.

The Sumner County Economic Development Commission has confirmed that several developers are working on plans and are focusing on the area around the turnpikes, reports Forbes.

Director Janis Hellard said: "That is where the developers are focusing because we have the visibility from the turnpike. The land around the interchanges is open farm land."

"We can't wait to showcase our county to the world."

The commission also pointed out that the county's residents clearly want a casino as opposed to a dog racing track, "which was never a consideration".

Sumner County's hopes have been raised by news that over half of voters in neighboring Sedgwick County voted against a proposal to build a casino.
