Don't increase Adelaide gambling charges, says beneficiary

2007-08-06 14:16:08

Plans to increase charges in Australia's Adelaide Casino have met with opposition from an unlikely source.

The McGuinness McDermott Foundation, a children's cancer charity, has asked MPs not to support a bill that would result in higher gambling charges.

This is because the casino is a supporter of the charity and one of its chief donors, reports ABC News.

Representatives from the McGuinness McDermott Foundation want politicians to bear this in mind when they come to vote on the issue in the upper house.

Also known as Skycity Adelaide, the casino is south Australia's only such establishment and provides around 70 gaming tables and 950 gaming machines.
