October opening for new MGM Detroit casino

2007-08-03 12:24:44

The MGM Grand Detroit 17-story $800 million hotel and casino will open on October 2nd, it has been announced.

Owned by MGM Mirage and Partners Detroit, a group of local investors, the casino will be Detroit's first entirely new casino venue.

Up to 1,000 new jobs will be created by the opening of the casino, according to Forbes.

It will feature nine rooftop VIP suites, 56 corner suites, a resort-style spa, 400 guest rooms and three restaurants run by celebrity chefs Wolfgang Puck and Michael Mina.

The announcement came after MGM Mirage revealed that its second-quarter profits had more than doubled.

Net revenues for MGM increased by ten per cent to $1.9 billion during the second quarter, which the company claims is an "all-time record".
