Michigan's Four Winds casino to open on Thursday

2007-08-01 15:06:27

South-west Michigan's first casino is set to open this week after years of legal wrangling, it has been announced.

Situated near Lake Michigan in the New Buffalo Township, the Four Winds Casino Resort is expected to open its doors on Thursday.

The 130,000 sq ft complex is owned by the Pokagon Tribe of Potawatomi Indians, which has a five-year contract with Minneapolis-based Lakes Entertainment Minneapolis to operate the casino.

Visitors to the Four Winds will be able to choose from 100 tables and 3,000 slot machines. There is also a 165-room hotel, parking space and numerous restaurants situated on the complex.

It took six years for the tribe to win the right to build the $400 million casino after a series of lawsuits were filed by opponents worried about the complex's impact on the local environment.
