Gambling banned in Second Life

2007-07-31 15:35:00

All forms of gambling in Second Life, the popular virtual world game, have been banned by its operators.

Linden Labs has announced that users or avatars are no longer allowed to create casino games and slot machines.

The decision follows a widespread ban on internet gambling throughout the US.

"If we discover gambling activities that violate the policy, we will remove all related objects from the in-world environment," said a spokesperson.

Linden Labs said it may also suspend or terminate the accounts of residents without refund and may report any "relevant details" to the authorities.

Earlier this year, the company invited the FBI to tour Second Life, but it is not clear whether this had a direct bearing on Linden Lab's decision to ban gambling.
