Mayor says maybe to casino

2007-07-20 14:21:12

A recently approved proposal for a leisure development in Toronto could be expanded to include a casino, it emerged today.

The mayor and a number of councillors said they would consider plans to include a casino at the Woodbine Racetrack site, possibly as an outlet for generating more financial assistance for the city.

However, it may only go ahead if all revenues were directed back to Toronto, said mayor David Miller.

And as the Woodbine location already has a slots casino, any plans would be subject to a series of negotiations.

"If they want to expand, I'd look at it, but only if the money comes down to the city," Mr Miller told CTV Toronto.

Plans for a 'supercasino' in the UK city of Manchester have recently hit the headlines, following the prime minister's rethink of whether the project can go ahead.
