Chinese government introduces novel gambling bans

2007-07-18 16:51:30

For any gamers out there lamenting last year's ban on online gaming you may want to thank your lucky stars you don't live in China…

The government - not exactly known for its love of the internet - has recently announced that anyone playing an online game, including poker or casino sites, will have the number of points available to them cut in half after three hours.

What's more, after five hours of play gamers will not be able to accrue any points on any game whatsoever, effectively meaning online gameplay becomes worthless.

As ever, there are possibly ways around the ban, as Song Yang, a spokesman for the company Tencent, which runs online games in China, said: "Many [players] can register for the game using someone else's ID or even a fake ID."

So while it may now be more costly and difficult to gamble online in the States, as the saying goes: it's better to have a little than nothing!
