Riverboat casino in Iowa to be transformed

2007-06-12 16:19:12

Construction work on the Wild Rose Casino and Resort in the city of Clinton, Iowa has now begun.

Developers hope that the city's Mississippi Belle II riverboat casino can be transformed into a land-based resort &ndash a project likely to cost around $25 million.

The 28,000 sq ft casino, which is expected to open next year, will also boast a 60-room hotel, a restaurant and other amenities.

"Clinton wins from the increased economic impact of new development," said Gary Kirke, chairman and co-founder of Wild Rose.

"It also is able to reclaim the riverfront and pursue its plans to revitalize the area for family recreation and other purposes."

Governor Culver recently signed a bill into law removing the requirement that state-licensed casinos must float on water.

The Mississippi Belle II riverboat boat will remain open until the new casino is operational.
