2007-05-31 17:00:00

The Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas is set to hold an auction of Michael Jackson items this week.

A number of the superstar's famous memorabilia including glittering costumes and platinum records are to be auctioned off for millions of dollars.

Over 1,100 items will form part of the sell-off which is set to attract attention from fans and major pop memorabilia collectors.

Arlan Ettinger, president of auction house Guernsey's, which is in charge of the sale, said: "I cannot imagine that somewhere down the road some other collection could come out of the woodwork and rival this. It's not going to happen."

The superstar had tried to prevent the auction going ahead over claims that the collection's former owner, businessman Henry Vaccaro, illegally gained possession of the memorabilia in 2002 after a bankruptcy case with a former associate of the singer.

Other items to go under the hammer include Michael Jackson's first gold disc award for his hit album Thriller and an ID card used by the singer when he was just five-years-old.
