A new $704 million Biloxi casino has been announced by Harrah's &ndash the single biggest development to have been announced in Mississippi since Hurricane Katrina hit the region in 2005.
The Margaritaville Casino and Resort will feature around 100,000 square feet of casino floor as well as 250,000 square feet of retail space, along with 420 new and 378 renovated hotel rooms.
Work on the resort will begin this summer, with around 46 acres of space expected to eventually be occupied by the new developments.
"One of the essential elements of life along the Gulf Coast is the Creole belief that hard work and good fun go hand in hand. So, with that in mind I say, “Let's get to work and let's let the good times roll again," said singer songwriter Jimmy Buffett, who is aiding development of the project.
The Grand Biloxi Casino, also owned by Harrah's, was re-opened in a new venue last summer.
