Casino hits $1 billion milestone in under five months

2007-05-02 17:07:04

Gamblers at the Philadelphia Park Casino in Bensalem near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have bet and recouped more than $1 billion in the five months since opening, it has been announced.

Casino officials have said that this week marked the passing of the milestone, according to estimates based on latest available data.

According to official statistics, $948 million was handed out to gamblers between the casino's opening date on December 19th and April 22nd of this year, Phillyburbs.com has reported.

"Given what those early numbers show, I think we can assume they've hit the billion dollar mark by now," said Doug Harbach, spokesman for the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, according to the paper.

Casino officials added that they expected to reach the two billion dollars mark in the fall.

Four slot parlor casinos have opened in Pennsylvania since last November, with ten more expected to follow over the coming years.
