MotorCity casino set for expansion

2007-04-16 16:51:55

Detroit's number two casino is to undergo a major expansion, it was announced today.

The MotorCity, which is reported by the Detroit Free Press to trail only the MGM Grand Detroit in terms of revenue, will be renovated and also gain a 400-room hotel, 67,000 square feet of convention space, a 1,200-seater theatre and 933 new parking spaces.

MotorCity is refusing, however, to let such major construction work get in the way of their customers' gaming action.

Scott Lancucki, of building contractors MIG Detroit, said that "the biggest challenge is to construct this in a safe and timely manner and keep the casino operating without affecting casino operations".

Mr Lancucki said that the builders felt "confined", but enjoyed the challenge of working on such a major undertaking whilst also "keeping a casino in operation".

The expansion is the second such project currently underway in Detroit.

The MGM Grand Detroit Casino is currently building a $765 facility.

Fox News reports that 26,000 people have applied for 1,000 jobs at the MGM.
