$32m expansion for Coconut Creek Casino

2007-04-11 15:13:26

Coconut Creek Casino in Florida has opened a major new extension, featuring more slot machines, expanded entertainment and a new restaurant.

The move is not expected to be last big move in Florida by the Seminole tribe, who own Coconut Creek Casino.

The Miami Herald (MH) reports that Seminole leaders are pushing for permission to open a Las Vegas-style complex of showrooms, concert halls, restaurants, shops and, of course, innumerable new gambling opportunities.

Gary Bitner, spokesman for the Seminole, told MH that his tribe was pushing to convince the Coconut Creek city government of the idea's merits.

Mr Bitner said that such a facility would "make the property surrounding the casino complex more valuable".

It would also, he argued, "bring in more investors, provide more jobs".

The Seminole, along with other Native American tribes, often have the right to develop their sovereign lands into casinos, even if the state in which they live does not generally permit gambling.

Coconut Creek Casino is likely to be of especial interest to European gamers who may look to combine a visit there with enjoyment of other tourist attractions and theme parks in the state of Florida.
