Study boosts German gambling hopes

2007-03-30 16:45:40

A study examining analysts' expectations for the future of the German betting market has revealed that the vast majority expect regulations to be liberalised over the coming years.

Conducted by management consultants, MECN Research, the survey of market experts found that online poker was considered to have the most potential moving forward, with the sector likely to capitalise on the game's huge popularity in Germany.

Gambling advertising in and around sporting events is also expected to be permitted, according to the report cited by Online-Casinos.com.

Furthermore, analysts expect that the existing state treaty concerned with gambling will soon be amended, and that following its expiration in 2012 rules will be liberalised further.

A previous MECN study, conducted in the summer of 2006, found that 91 per cent of experts surveyed believed that Europe would be the most important location for investors in terms of future growth potential.
