Citadel moves to Malta

2007-03-27 16:13:14

Payments processor Citadel has announced that it is to move its central hub from Vancouver, Canada, to Malta as part of a company-wide restructuring.

The move to Malta will add to an existing call centre in Costa Rica and a software development site in India as Citadel looks to move to shores more hospitable to online gambling and related payments.

Owners EST Entertainment have already announced that Citadel was to cease provision of services in the US earlier this year following continued uncertainty in the sector over the future of gambling in the region.

The announcement follows a similar move made yesterday by Neteller, in which the e-wallet firm announced that it was withdrawing from both Canadian and Turkish markets.

"Recent actions by regulators, payment processors, and online gaming operators have increased the uncertainty around certain activities related to online gambling in some jurisdictions," confirmed Neteller in a statement.
