US presidential candidate Barack Obama's election campaign will follow the same lines as his poker play, a US senator has said.
Mr Obama's fondness for poker had not been common knowledge until a recent article in the Daily Telegraph referred to a series of games once played by a group of senators from across the US.
Speaking about Mr Obama's candidacy, senator Terry Links told the Telegraph that skills used in competition could easily be transferred to the political arena.
"Barack wasn't one of those foolish gamblers who just thought all of a sudden that card in the middle was going to show up mysteriously. He's as competitive in politics as he is in poker.
"It's not like he's going to go into something without a course of action mapped out."
Other senators were similarly in awe of Mr Obama's abilities.
"It's hard to tell when he's bluffing. In fact, I never could - that's why he usually beat me. Also, he never threw good money after bad," said former senator Denny Jacobs.
Mr Obama is bidding to become the first black president in the history of the United States.
