Mick Hucknell, the curly haired star of Simply Red, could benefit from Manchester's successful bid to build the UK's only supercasino.
The pop star apparently holds a large percentage of shares in Ask Property Developments, one of the companies that is likely to be used in construction of the development.
Although the agreement which was made three years ago between the construction company and the council has lapsed, experts claim that Ask is still the favourite for the new deal.
Manchester Evening News reports that Mr Hucknell currently holds 17 per cent of the shares in the company.
Mr Hucknall's spokeswoman said to This is London: "He is a shareholder in the company but doesn't get involved in any of the business."
"He hasn't spoken to anyone in the Government, nor would he about his business interests."
Ask Developments was awarded the Insider Property Awards Commercial Developer of the Year Award 2006 for the north-west region.
