Revenues from the mobile entertainment market will more than double during the next five years, in part due to a growing interest in online gambling on the move, it has been revealed.
A survey by analysts at Informa Telecoms and Media predicted that the sector, currently worth just under $19 billion, will surpass $38 billion in 2011.
New technologies will make it easier to develop online games able to be played over internet-enabled mobile devices, with companies eager to take advantage of such progress.
Online software developer CryptoLogic recently commented that it was examining the sector ahead of potential gaming developments to be revealed later in the year.
Analysts from Informa expect that over half of the world's cell phone users will be accessing the internet via handsets by 2011.
Services such as gambling and gaming will be worth a total of $13 billion by 2011, the company estimated.
