Italy set to enjoy online gambling

2007-01-31 16:06:33

A new article investigating the popularity of poker and gambling in Italy has suggested that players will soon be able to enjoy their favourite pastimes like never before.

Writing for the Poker Player newspaper, author Steve Horton said that this month marks the beginning of a period of liberalisation within the industry in Italy, with new gambling legislation passing into law.

With online poker and gaming already attracting attention from the likes of William Hill and other companies eager to invest in the country, land-based casinos are also finding favour.

Industry figures suggest that poker could be the key to unlocking such markets.

"I am sure that Poker, first of all Texas Hold'em, will generate a real revolution in the casino trend, if they will be able to get the opportunity to change the offerings in the gaming areas," said marketing manager Marco Fiore, speaking to the paper.

Just under a year ago Italy said it would ban over 600 online websites from operating in the country, but has now made a sudden turnaround in its views.
