Electronic poker chips to be showcased at ICE

2007-01-18 16:06:01

A leading casino chip manufacturer and supplier has announced that it will showcase its latest innovation at the International Casino Exhibition (Ice) in London later this month.

Gaming Partners International (GPI) will debut its Electronic Chip Surveillance (ECS) technology, which uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tagging to monitor poker chips and guard against criminal activity.

Any attempts to remove chips from casinos will cause an alarm to be triggered, ensuring that neither patrons nor employees of the casino will be able to take chips home with them.

Further GPI innovations will also be on display, the company revealed. Poker tables will be shown complete with integrated chip readers, capable of calculating chip counts, pot stakes and operator's commission within a matter of seconds.

The Ice event is held from January 25th to January 27th, and will be sponsored by leading online software developer CryptoLogic, whose own innovations have proved highly successful over the course of the past 12 months.
