Record year for Nevada casinos

2007-01-08 15:35:37

The gambling boom shows no sign of slowing down, either online or offline, as Nevada's super-casinos revealed record levels of profit for 2006.

The combined income of the major gaming complexes in the southern state totalled $2.1 billion &ndash the highest ever net income &ndash according to the Associated Press.

The net income for 2005 was $1.8 billion, with senior officials hailing the progress.

"We have record net income and record revenues. There was substantial growth in all revenue areas, not just gaming," said Frank Streshley, an analyst with the Nevada Gaming Control Board (GCB), which produced the figures.

With pressure being put on the establishments by the easily accessible and fast moving online gambling world, a growing number of customer incentives meant that almost $2 billion went on complimentary services to gamblers, the report also reveals.

The survey was based on the 274 highest grossing casinos on the Las Vegas Strip and in Nevada as a whole.
