William Hill announces Italian venture

2006-12-29 15:50:00

Recent industry rumours regarding online casinos' expansion into Italy have been confirmed with the news that William Hill has been granted permission to expand its operations into the Mediterranean country.

The company has been granted a license by Italian state betting agency AAMS to conduct internet and phone betting within Italy for both sports and horse betting.

Industry analysts believe the move is a sign of further developments still to come, with many considering Italy to be preparing for a relaxation of its rules regarding online casinos and poker rooms.

A number of online casinos such as InterCasino have already prepared for such developments by concentrating their focus on European operations instead of the US market.

In a related move earlier this month online software developer Cryptologic, which provides games for InterCasino, also announced that it too has agreed a deal with William Hill to provide software for the bookmaker over the course of the next three years, continuing the two companies' long association with one another.
