The Pennsylvania gaming board will today decide which one of 13 bids to accept for casino licenses.
The board is able to award one stand-alone casino for Pittsburgh, two for Philadelphia, and two others in the state and also six racetrack slots parlors.
If granted, the gaming license would permit a 3,000-slot machine development in Pittsburgh.
Many sports fans favor the bid placed by the Isle of Capri which has offered to include a new arena for the Pittsburg Penguins ice hockey team in their $290 million development.
Majestic Star and Forest City Enterprises have conceded that they would also give some profits towards building a new arena.
Awaiting the decision, Allan Soloman, the executive vice president of Isle of Capri told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: "It's a very tense time."
Closing pleas were given by ten of the companies bidding for the deal in a last-minute effort to sway the opinion of the board.
Spokesman for the gaming control board, Doug Harbach told the newspaper: "This is an immensely difficult decision but the public should be assured they are prepared to make it in a fair and open manner."
Results of the decision are expected later today.
