Delaware slots lead to community training program

2006-12-12 16:05:17

The arrival of four new casinos into the state over the course of 2007 and beyond, a new training program is being set up in Pennsylvania aimed at training up potential slot technicians.

Delaware County Community College (DCCC) will begin running the training next month, in an effort to boost state-wide gambling knowledge and ease Delaware's transition into a new gaming future.

The course will involve students spending over seventy-five hours within local casinos or arcades, dean of DCCC Walter Yakabosky told the Daily Local News newspaper.

Operators such as Harrah's are set to move into the area over the coming months, and have announced plans to take on local residents in slot-based technical positions.

Two further licenses have yet to be announced by the Philadelphia Gaming Board, though a decision is expected within the next few weeks.
"It's very intense. We're taking the charge and the drive from the industry," Mr Yakabosky added.
