Atlantic City revival continues

2006-12-12 16:02:31

The continued regeneration of Atlantic City took another step forward in November, as revenues in what remains the US's second largest gambling market continued to increase.

Slot machine revenues across the area's casinos increased by 2.5 per cent to $297 million, while overall casino winnings reached $406 million &ndash a rise of 1.6 per cent.

However, gamers chalked up a victory when it came to table games, with overall casino revenue falling by 0.6 per cent to $109 million.

Thus far 2006 has shown a 3.7 per cent increase in revenue compared to 2005 figures, a statistic that has contributed to expansion plans as outlined by several of Atlantic City's casino operators.

"If they keep up that pace, [the casinos] will clearly end the year with record revenues," said Dan Heneghan, spokesman for the New Jersey Casino Control Commission.

Four major casino operators, including Pinnacle and Donald Trump's Trump Entertainment, are intending to increase their presence within the region in 2007.
