The Jamul Indian tribe has been forced to postpone planned construction work on its long-awaited casino in San Diego County due to a delayed environmental report, it has been revealed.
Issues such as traffic congestion are thought to have been behind the delay, following governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's criticism of such matters.
The casino has been dogged by opposition from a group of local residents, but with plans for the project having been in the works for a decade or more, the latest hitch seems unlikely to curtail the scheme.
"We're being very conservative. We're just making sure that everything we need to do in regard to this project is done," said Jamul tribal chairman Leon Acebedo, speaking to the local Union-Tribune newspaper.
The ambitious plans for the proposed $250 million multi-storey casino include provisions for a twelve-storey hotel to be constructed alongside the gambling hall.
