Changes planned for Laughlin casinos

2006-11-27 15:03:16

The nine casinos in Laughlin County, Nevada, are set to boost the local economy via a series of expansions, it has been announced.

Ongoing deals involving the Edgewater and Colorado Belle venues are set to be concluded within the next few months, meaning two thirds of the area's casinos are set to have changed hands within the last two years.

Such transactions have led to ambitious new development plans, as new owners seek to improve upon their investments.

Companies such as Columbia Sussex and American Casino have spent heavily on their newly-acquired sites over the past few months, converting the likes of the Aquarius into 21st century complexes.

American Casino has also refurbished the Flamingo, providing it with an extra 1,000 slot machines and an 80 foot tall marquee.

"Laughlin is an attractive market and, based on the prices these guys are spending to acquire and operate the casinos, the rebranding and reinvestments will include additional amenities," said Bill Lerner, gambling analyst at Deutsche Bank, speaking to the Associated Press.
