$40m first week take for Mohegan Sun

2006-11-24 16:03:36

India has said that more co-operation between aviation authorities is needed if the country is to meet ambitious passenger growth estimates.

Speaking at the first India-EU Aviation Summit, aviation minister Praful Patel said that international traffic had grown by 50 per cent and domestic traffic by 25 per cent in the last year alone. A 25 per cent increase is forecast to take place every year for the next decade.

Best practice and full modernisation could only be achieved via "holding hands", Mr Patel said, outlining his country's vision for an "aviation grid" that would mean no Indian was ever more than 30 miles away from an airport.

"That vision will not just rely on the public sector, it will be open to anyone who wants to come up with private airports. India is in a very positive frame of mind. It wants to see change happen very rapidly," Mr Patel affirmed.

A 2004 EU-India summit upgraded the relationship between the two to a Strategic Partnership, which since then has facilitated conferences such as the Aviation Summit.
