Celebrities throw weight behind Pennsylvania gambling

2006-11-20 15:02:00

A number of heavyweight Hollywood stars have backed motions calling for the introduction of gambling within Pennsylvania, it has been announced.

In a video message directed at the Pennsylvania state gaming regulators, Sylvester Stallone urged officials to back a plan proposing a casino and slots license for his hometown, Philadelphia, the Associated Press has reported.

Other famous faces such as Die Hard star Bruce Willis and music producer Quincy Jones are also thought to favour the approval of the plans, which would see two of five proposed casino operators secure a pair of licenses for Philadelphia venues.

Saying "I know you'll do the right thing," Stallone presented his case to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, one month ahead of the decision date of December 20th.

Operators are hopeful that the high-profile campaign will entice more gamblers to the region once the casinos are opened &ndash leading to increased revenue for both the casinos and the state itself.
