The growing popularity of blackjack has meant that two made-for-TV versions are set to cash-in on the ongoing gambling craze.
Ultimate Blackjack Tour on CBS and the World Series of Blackjack on GSN will attempt to transform the game into a more competitive format, featuring forced eliminations, guests from the world of poker and bets that other players do not know about.
Both shows offer more than $1 million in prize money, but the most popular casino game remains a predominately online attraction, with one company recently launching a version that combines the single-minded attraction of blackjack with some of the features that have made poker so successful.
Crpytologic's Hold'Em Blackjack game does away with the traditional dealer-based play of casino blackjack, instead pitting player against player to enable betting and bluffing to come into play.
"Because blackjack is a familiar game to play, the learning curve for Hold'Em Blackjack very fast. After just a couple of hands almost anyone can be an expert," said Cryptologic poker software development vice-president Andy Goetsch.
